PROTECTIONS IN YOUR AGREEMENT

Protect the job from scope creep and payment uncertainty.

A clear agreement gives you a fair process when instructions, access, timing or costs change.

Scope-creep controls Define what is included and how extra requests are handled.
How this protects you as the tradesperson

You are not obliged to perform material extras until the revised work, fee and timeline are agreed in writing.

Advance and milestone payments Record when cleared payment is required and how invoices operate.
How this protects you as the tradesperson

The agreement connects payment to defined stages and records due dates and interest on late payment.

Client-caused delays Address late information, approvals, materials and access.
How this protects you as the tradesperson

Dates extend for client-caused delay, with a process for suspension, rescheduling and evidenced additional cost where appropriate.

Inspection and acceptance Give the client a defined opportunity to identify visible issues.
How this protects you as the tradesperson

A time-bound inspection process distinguishes genuine rectification from preference changes or additional work.

Materials and early termination Record how committed costs and unused advance payments are handled.
How this protects you as the tradesperson

Properly performed work, authorised materials and unavoidable costs can be accounted for, with the balance transparently calculated.

Site access and working conditions Set working hours, utilities, access and disruption expectations.
How this protects you as the tradesperson

You can plan attendance around agreed access and hours rather than relying on informal availability.

Liability and insurance Allocate project risks while preserving non-excludable obligations.
How this protects you as the tradesperson

The agreement records required insurance and a proportionate liability framework, with stated exceptions.

The clauses included depend on the project details and options selected.

The agreement does not remove statutory duties, safety obligations or consumer rights that apply to the work.

Most disputes begin in the gaps between the quote and the finished job.

A detailed written agreement makes those gaps smaller before they become expensive.

Without detailed written terms

  • Different ideas about what the price includes
  • Verbal extras create surprise costs and delays
  • No agreed test for completion or defective work
  • Deposits, materials and cancellation become disputed

With a SigSwift agreement

  • The work and payment milestones are documented
  • Changes require a written price and timeline impact
  • Inspection, snagging and rectification have a process
  • Both parties retain the same signed project record

A LITTLE MORE CLARITY

Frequently asked questions

Plain-English answers about agreeing tradesperson work.

Can either party create the draft?

Yes. The client or tradesperson can create and share the draft. Both parties can propose changes before deciding to sign.

Can extra work be agreed verbally?

The agreement requires variations to be documented before the changed work begins, including the effect on price, scope and timing.

Does the agreement deal with deposits?

Yes. It can record an advance payment and how it is credited, applied or refunded if the agreement ends early, subject to applicable consumer rights.

What happens if work is defective?

The agreement provides an inspection, notification and rectification process, together with warranty and retention terms where selected.

Do we need a printer?

No. Both parties can review and sign online using a phone, tablet or computer.

Are electronic signatures recognised in Ireland?

Yes. In Ireland, sections 13 and 19 of the Electronic Commerce Act 2000 recognise the use of electronic signatures and electronic contracts, subject to the applicable conditions, including consent. At EU level, Article 25(1) of Regulation (EU) No 910/2014 (the eIDAS Regulation), as amended, provides that an electronic signature cannot be denied legal effect or admissibility as evidence solely because it is electronic or is not a qualified electronic signature. SigSwift records each party’s consent to use electronic records and signatures and their active signing event. The usual requirements for forming an agreement still apply, and some specialised documents may require additional formalities.
